1. When would I receive my Welcome Kit?

You will receive your Welcome Kit at the time of registration. The kit will be sent along with the Login credentials and GSTIN.

2. I have completed all the steps for the first-time login and I have been directed to a new credentials page. What should I do?

You need to create your username and password to login to the GST Portal. For subsequent logins, you will use the username created now.

3. The system is not accepting the password I am entering. Are there any special requirements for setting the password?

Your password should be of 8 to 15 characters which should comprise of at least one number, special character and letter (at least one upper and lower case).

4. I have logged in to the GST Portal for first time. I am prompted to file an amendment application to enter Bank Account details. Why?

Post grant of GSTIN, when you login for the first time on the GST Portal, you will be prompted to file a non-core amendment application to enter Bank Accounts details.

5. I have logged in to the GST Portal for first time. Where can I enter Bank Account Details?

You can file a non-core amendment application to enter Bank Accounts details.

Note: Adding bank details is optional for TDS and TCS taxpayers.

Login to GST portal

1. I’m a new user. How do I login with OTP?

As you login to GST Portal, you may encounter that the portal is only accessible to trusted users. Upon completing the registration process, you will be able to login using the email and password you entered during account creation and pass through the second round of authentication. Returning users can enter their Username and Password in the username and password fields respectively, enter captcha, and login.

2. How does the 2-Step Authentication process work?

The 2-Step Authentication process has been set up to provide an additional layer of security, while the user tries to login to the portal and to prevent any fraudulent activities. The 2-Step Authentication process will follow the following approach:
•    Whenever you sign into the GST portal, you'll enter your username and password as usual. 
•    Then, an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number via text message and registered email id which you have to enter every time you sign in from a new device. 
Note: If you or someone else tries to sign into your account from another computer or browser, 2-Step authentication will be required.

3. Why is there a need for a One-Time Password (OTP) to login to GST Portal?

The OTP helps to protect against online fraud. It is a secure way to authenticate that the user logging in is a trusted user. After entering the username and password, the user has to enter the OTP received via text message on their registered mobile number or on the registered email id for the authentication.

4. Do I have to enter OTP every time I login to the portal? 

No, you don’t have to enter OTP every time you login via a trusted browser/device that you have previously authenticated from then you will not be asked to authenticate via OTP. However, if you are logging in via a new browser/device you have to go through the whole authentication process. 

5. I have followed the 2-Step authentication process; however, I am asked to enter OTP again. Why?

If you are asked to provide OTP again, it could be because of the following reasons:
•    Your username and device are not associated with GST/ You are a first-time user
•    You logged in from a new device
•    There is configuration change in the system from where you have logged in previously
•    You are logging in with same credentials from multiple systems, and are located across cities, at the same time 
•    Unknowingly you have logged in multiple times from one or more systems within small time frame 

6. Can I login to my GST account from outside India? 

No, only Indian users who pass through the 2-step authentication process can access GST Portal and its services.

7. Why am I not receiving the OTP to login to my GST account? 

Following could be the reasons why you didn't get the OTP:
•    If we notice something different about how you sign in, like your location, you might not be able to get an OTP through text message.
•    A text message with an OTP was sent to your registered phone number and via email id, thus, make sure your service plan and mobile device support the text message delivery. 
•    Ensure you have good internet connectivity when you get your OTP.

8. Why does GST Portal asks for verification every time I log in?

You most likely need to enable cookies in your browser, or your browser is set to automatically clear its cache on exit.

9. Why am I not able to login to my GST account?

You may not be able to sign in to your GST account when we can’t verify it’s you. It can be one of the following reasons:
•    You are not logging in from a trusted IP Address
•    You are not logging in from India

Subsequent Login/Retrieve Username or Password/Change Password

1. I have forgotten my username. How do I retrieve it?

Please use the Forgot Username link available on the login page to retrieve your username.

2. I have forgotten my password. How do I reset it?

Please use the Forgot Password link available on the login page to reset your password.

3. How long is my password valid?

Your password is valid for 120 days.

4. What is Captcha Code? Why do I need to fill it?

Captcha Code is a numeric code that must be filled up every time you login to the GST Portal. It has been added as an additional security measure.

5. The Captcha Code provided is not legible. What should I do?

You can click the refresh icon next to the code and the system will generate a new code for you.

6. Which category of taxpayers can use EVC for various filings on GST portal?

All category of taxpayers (irrespective of their Constitution of business), are provided with the option to file various Forms, returns, statements, replies etc., using EVC.
